Norway needs significantly more renewable energy in the coming years to cut greenhouse gas emissions and facilitate new green industries.
SNII will have a total capacity of 1,500 MW – enough to supply half a million Norwegian households with electricity every year. Electricity from the offshore wind farm will be transported more than 200 kilometers via a subsea cable to shore. With such long distances, it will not be possible to see the offshore wind farm from land or coastal areas.
Large amounts of renewable electricity entering the Norwegian power system will benefit both Norwegian households and industry. In addition, the development of Norway’s first large-scale offshore wind farm will lay the foundation for a new national offshore wind industry.
