Ventyr has experienced a number of unexpected challenges in the development and planning of Sørlige Nordsjø II as well as confronting the difficult macroeconomic environment in offshore wind. As a result, certain project development activities have been slowed down.

In June 2026, Ventyr submitted an application to the Ministry of Energy for an extension of the deadline for submitting the license application. The application is now under consideration.

The additional time will, among other things, be used to assess a modified option for landfall and grid connection in the vicinity of Alcoa – referred to as “G 2.0”. This is a potentially attractive solution with significant societal and environmental benefits, but it needs to be matured through further studies. The concept would involve new infrastructure in close connection with the existing Lista substation (at Alcoa’s aluminium plant), in parallel with the construction of the SN II converter station.

Ventyr is grateful for the patience and flexibility shown by its partners and is committed to working closely with them as we seek to improve the conditions of the project. Ventyr is also working constructively with the Norwegian government and other public stakeholders, recognizing that offshore wind is a new industry in Norway and that the regulatory framework is still being developed.
