Ventyr in 2024: a year of milestones in offshore wind development
As we embark on 2025, we at Ventyr are proud to reflect on a transformative year in 2024 for the Norwegian offshore wind sector. The journey to progress in the Sørlige Nordsjø II (SNII) project has been marked by a series of important milestones, each bringing us closer to delivering clean, renewable energy to Norway.
Read along through our summary of the key accomplishments that defined our year:
February: pre-qualification success
In February, we successfully pre-qualified for the Sørlige Nordsjø II project. This achievement marked a critical step in our journey, setting the stage for active participation in Norway’s offshore wind expansion.
March: auction participation
By March, we were at the forefront of the SNII auction process. We seized the opportunity and demonstrated our readiness for the future of offshore wind energy.
April: award letter received
April brought us one step closer to realizing our ambitions with the receipt of the award letter. This formal recognition reinforced our presence in Norway.
May–August: preparing tenders and surveys
Throughout the summer months, our teams were hard at work preparing detailed tenders and conducting surveys. These efforts were instrumental in ensuring we are well-positioned for the next phases of project development.
June: IA program notifications submitted
In June, we submitted the Impact Assessment (IA) program notifications to the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE). This step was critical in ensuring transparency and compliance with regulatory requirements for the SNII project.
August: engaging with stakeholders
August was a pivotal month for stakeholder engagement, as we undertook a series of activities to strengthen collaboration and gather valuable insights:
- Public hearing meetings: public hearings were held in Farsund and Kvinesdal to share updates on the SNII project, address questions, and gather feedback from local communities. The input received during these sessions was carefully processed to refine our project plans.
- Participation in key industry events: we attended Arendalsuka and ONS, two major industry gatherings. These events provided a platform to showcase our project and engage with industry leaders, policymakers, and the public.
- Co-existence dialogue meetings: in preparation for the SNII survey campaign, we conducted co-existence dialogue meetings with fisheries and other relevant stakeholders. These meetings were crucial in addressing concerns, identifying opportunities for collaboration, and ensuring respect for and support of marine ecosystems and existing industries.
October: IA program published by NVE
In October, the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) published the Impact Assessment (IA) program for SNII.
October: grid capacity secured with Statnett
Also in October, we successfully reserved grid capacity with Statnett, ensuring that the renewable energy generated by our project will seamlessly integrate into Norway’s energy grid.
November: advancing SNII onshore and offshore
November was a busy month as we initiated the Geoquip campaign and deployed cutting-edge FLIDAR technology and a wave buoy. These deployments are providing crucial meteorological and oceanographic data to optimize our project design.
At the same time, we also kicked off the work with DNV for the offshore IA program. This initiative focuses on ensuring the offshore Impact Assessment program is conducted with the highest standards. And for the onshore IA program we engaged Norconsult, addressing key environmental and community considerations for land-based aspects of the SNII project.
January 2025: Cluster Meeting and collaboration with Ramboll
To kick off 2025, we participated in the Cluster Meeting organized by Norwegian Offshore Wind. And just before this event, we proudly announced our collaboration with Ramboll as the FEED designer for SNII. Together, we’re not only designing foundations for turbines ranging from 15–18 MW; we’re laying the groundwork for sustainable energy to power over 500,000 Norwegian households.
Looking ahead
These milestones illustrate our unwavering dedication to advancing the Sørlige Nordsjø II project and supporting Norway’s energy transition. As we move forward, Ventyr remains committed to collaboration, innovation, and sustainability in shaping the future of offshore wind energy.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to make new strides into 2025!
